2024-2025
QGA President's Challenge

From our QGA President, Julie Andries:

Being elected as President of the Quilters' Guild of Acadiana gave me big shoes to fill. Past presidents have kept this guild going strong for many years. Due to the changing times, we find ourselves at a crossroads. Our club, like other organizations, needs to change and grow with the times or diminish slowly.

Quilting itself has always managed to change with the times. Maybe because it is an artform, it has evolved over generations. Even in its humble beginnings as a necessary utilitarian piece, it gave its creator at the time, a way to express themselves and their individual personalities.

It is with this same spirit of creativity and necessity; I challenge each one of our members to make one or more items to be donated to the guild. Some or all may be used at our Annual Auction (April 5, 2024), and some may be used through a Ways and Means Committee for raffles and sales to help fundraise for the guild.

Donations for this challenge, can include any item made by you that is quilted. Please be creative and consider themes such as -

  • Holidays

  • Scrappy

  • Baby quilts

  • Sports or hunting/fishing

  • Modern

  • Paper piecing

  • Hand stitched

  • Embroidery accented

  • Etc.

- Donated items may be any size.

- All donations are valued, however, those considered for this challenge should value at least $50 and should be a new item, made recently (this year or last year) or made particularly for this challenge and not an old or used item.

  1. Quilts of any size

  2. Wall hangings of any size

  3. Sets of 8-12 placemats and napkins

  4. Sets of 8-12 handmade holiday ornaments all of one holiday (Easter, Mardi Gras, Christmas)

  5. Handbags and quilted totes or crafting storages

Any other ideas, please see Julie Andries for approval.
